I stillhet forlater et menneske oss
Hver uke føres mennesker til graven hvor det kun er en prest som følger vedkommende til sitt siste hvile. Det skjer så alt for ofte. Nesten ti ganger i måneden står der en ensom kiste i et stor kirkelokale, eller kapell, her i Oslo, hvor presten taler til et tomt gudshus. Det er en grusom skjebne når mennesker blir så ensomme at ingen er der for å ta farvel.

Det er storbyens grusomme skyggeside - mennesker som forsvinner i mengden, og blir usynlige for omverdenen. Hver dag sitter der hundrevis av mennesker å ser ut av vinduet, på mennesker som haster i møte med andre mennesker, men som selv ikke har noen å møte. Ikke ringer det på døren, telefonen er stille, ingen brev, julekort, eller gratulasjoner.
Hvordan et slikt liv kan være er uforståelig for de fleste, og de fleste ønsker ikke å forstå. Det er samtidig så fryktelig vanskelig å vite hva man kan gjøre for å nå disse menneskene. Ser man på utviklingen så blir begravelser uten pårørende mer og mer vanlig. Flere og flere blandt oss faller utenfor, og har ingen rundt seg de siste årene av sitt liv.

I slike stunder så er det flott å vite at begravelsesbyrående ofte sender en representant for å ta farvel. Men idet vedkommende setter seg på bakerste benk, så blir tomheten frem til alteret så ufattelig mye større. Ensomme mennesker har også minner, men i dag er prestens ord få. Ingen kjente dette mennesket som nå drar alene på sin ferd mot dødsriket.
En ting er sikkert; ikke bare er det trist å se en ensom kiste men det gjør også vondt.
